Quick answer

The MetaMask Card is a self-custody Mastercard that spends straight from your MetaMask wallet on Linea, Base, Solana or Monad. The virtual card is free and pays about 1% back. Paying in stablecoins that match your local currency has no fee, but cross-border purchases cost 1% and ATM withdrawals cost 2%. The $199 Metal tier removes cross-border fees, but new Metal orders have been paused since June 2026.

Our take on MetaMask Card

The MetaMask Card makes sense the moment you realise you never have to "load" it. Your stablecoins sit in your own MetaMask wallet on Linea, Base, Solana or Monad, and the card pulls from them only when you tap. Nobody holds your balance in between, which is exactly what self-custody people want.

Fees are simple if you stick to stablecoins in your own currency: there's no fee at all, just a tiny gas cost that's usually around a cent. Pay in a currency that matches neither you nor the merchant and it's 0.5%. Spending other tokens like wETH costs 0.875%. On the free tier, cross-border purchases cost 1% and ATM withdrawals cost 2%.

Rewards are modest on the free card, around 1%. The Metal tier ($199 a year) was the upgrade path: 3% back in mUSD on the first $10,000 each year, no cross-border fee and higher limits. But MetaMask paused new Metal orders on June 2, 2026, and before that Metal was only offered in the US. So for most people right now, the MetaMask Card means the free virtual card.

One small but real benefit: it's one of the few self-custody cards that works for US residents.

The cleanest way to spend stablecoins without giving them to anyone first. Rewards are thin, so pick it for control and simplicity rather than cashback.
