Quick answer

Avici is a self-custody secured Visa credit card. You lock USDC in an onchain escrow you control and spend the same amount in USD. Avici adds no FX markup and no transaction fees, though Visa may charge 0.4% to 1% on non-USD purchases. The Platinum tier has no annual fee ($10 to $15 per virtual card, $50 physical). Signature costs $30 the first year, then $20, and adds travel perks and free ATM use. There's no ongoing cashback.

What's not

Our take on Avici

Avici works differently from most crypto cards. Instead of topping up a balance, you lock USDC in a smart contract escrow and get the same amount as USD credit on a Visa card. When you spend, Avici settles the matching USDC within a few days. Anything you haven't spent stays in the escrow, and only your wallet can take it out.

Fees are about as low as crypto cards get. Avici adds no FX markup and no per-transaction fee. Visa itself may charge 0.4% to 1% on non-USD purchases, but that applies to every Visa card. The Platinum tier has no annual fee, though you pay $10 to $15 per virtual card and $50 for a physical one.

Signature costs $30 in year one and $20 after that, and adds free ATM withdrawals, lounge access and travel insurance. For travellers, that's one of the cheapest premium tiers around.

The trade-off is rewards. There's no ongoing cashback, just a $5 welcome bonus and the odd promotion.

The low-fee pick for self-custody spending, especially on the cheap Signature tier. Choose it for costs and control, not cashback.
