Our take on ARQ (DolarApp)
ARQ is the new name for DolarApp, one of the most popular ways for Mexicans, Colombians, Argentines and Brazilians to hold dollars. Your balance sits in digital dollars (USDc) or euros (EURc), you get US and euro account details for getting paid from abroad, and a Mastercard spends from it. ARQ says 2 million people use the app.
On the free Standard plan the virtual card and card payments cost nothing, local deposits are free and ATM cash costs 1%. The costs show up when money arrives from abroad: every deposit from a US dollar, euro or crypto account costs 3 USDc or 3 EURc, so batch your transfers. ARQ doesn't publish the spread it uses when you pay in pesos or reais.
Cashback needs a paid plan, and the rate only applies to your first $500 a month, so Premium at $70 a year pays back at most $60 a year at 1%. It's a dollar account first and a rewards card second.
One of the best ways to save and spend in dollars in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil. Skip the paid plans unless you want the extras.
How we scored ARQ (DolarApp): 5.2/10
